Student Counsellors - Personal Therapy
Undertaking personal therapy is an important and essential requirement of counselling training, and is key to facilitating growth and self-awareness.
I have experience of working with student counsellors from various different colleges and training centres including Aylesbury [Bucks] College and Langley Training.
What I can offer you in personal therapy as a student counsellor
A safe, confidential, non-judgemental and empathetic place for you to explore any unresolved issues from the here and now or your past.
The experience of being in a therapeutic / counselling environment, if you have never experienced counselling before.
The experience of a therapeutic relationship.
A place to foster growth and self-awareness.
A supportive space for you, during your training.
Help you to explore how different theories / modalities may relate to, and impact you.
Help to increase your personal and professional development.
Help identifying any potential blind spots.
Client Work During Placement
There may be times when you feel you need to talk about what is happening for you with your clients, as part of your personal therapy.
I can support you through your placement / client work by helping to recognise and separate your own personal issues, from those of your clients, identifying anything that may be triggering.
I can help you to be more focused and present when with your clients.
It is possible that something may arise from group or 1:1 supervision, which needs greater depth or further exploration for you personally in therapy sessions. However, there might also be occasions where it would be more appropriate for me to refer you back to your supervisor.
As confidentiality is essential, it is generally good practice not to use or refer to the names of any fellow students that you are training with, in our sessions.
I will not be able to assist you with writing your college work or assignments i.e. either by reading through or editing your work, however we can explore criteria and how theoretical approaches may relate to you.
